I am depressed. Sunday afternoons do that to me oftentimes, especially during the school year. I want to write a book but I am too lazy. I am too lazy, in fact, to finish this entry.

A bit about me... I was raised in a small town in central Mississippi, graduate of Miss Mattie's Kindergarten, Robertsville Grade School, Harlow Junior High, and Pacific Street High School, in that order. I am not a Denker, but I am related to the Denkers on my mother's side. Anyone from that area of the country is familiar with the Denkers, or at least some of the Denkers. One out of every 20 or 25 Denkers is a nut, a certified nut. My mother was a Denker before she married my dad, Bill Redding, but she's not a nut. She's a psychologist. More about that later.
My mother's brother, Lonell Smith Denker, was the nut in our part of the clan. He was certified, or at least he would have been had there been a certification for nutness back then. I knew him as Uncle L, but he went by many names. To know me, and to understand how George came into my life and changed everything about me, about my family, and indeed about the county, you have to understand my Uncle L. Coming up.

Good Evening, Fair Readers... here I am again. I am the guru of Custer County, but not actually. I went down to the local Ace Hardware this morning... mid morning about 10 o'clock. Much too late for cafe traffic but early enough to beat the noontime rush to the post office. There is a man who sits on a rocker there at Ace, at least on fair weather mornings. His name is Pride. That's what he goes by anyway. I can't remember his given name for the life of me. I said, "Good morning, Pride, what do you know?" He replied, "Nothing." That right there told me that I am at least wiser than one person in Custer County.
You see, my guruship is a journey. I'm not there yet, at least not that I know of. Technically, I must visit with each citizen of our fine county and compare my wisdom to each person. I have started with Pride, and I am wiser than him since his reply was, "Nothing." I knew at least one thing that was going on this morning and he did not.
My journey continues. Please join me. It gets better.

Good Evening, Fair readers... this is just getting started. Please come back.
